New OEM optical switch and variable attenuator from Santec

Technologies and ProductsSantec Holdings Corporation has launched its OSX-100E OEM optical switch, and a polarization maintaining (PM) OVA-100 optical variable attenuator (pictured).
The OSX-100E device is available in different sizes up to 80 channels with single-mode, multimode, polarisation maintaining or custom core sizes, and uses Santec’s IL/RL measurement systems for reliability. Ultra-low loss (< 0.5 dB), repeatability (±0.005 dB), and low wavelength dependence as well as multimode modal transparency make the OSX-100E invisible to applications. For polarisation maintaining applications, the PMF OSX-100E maintains a PER > 23dB and an IL < 1.0 dB across all channels. In addition to the standard 1xN, 2xN in both ganged and trailing configurations are available. The smallest form factor OSX-100E (90 x 42 x 40 mm) can fit in a conventional 1U module chassis and has up to 27 channels. The compact configuration of the OSX-100E combined with the standard I2C communication protocol allows for a simple and flexible integration. Features include 90 mm x 42 mm x 40 mm configuration, I2C communication protocol and loss less than 0.50 dB per channel for common fibre types.
The OVA-100 variable attenuator enables precise optical power control featuring high accuracy and superior repeatability. With a PER > 23 dB, the PM (Power Maintaining) OVA-100 is invisible to applications. Featuring an attenuation range of 60 or 100 dB, with a wavelength range from 1200 to 1700 nm and ± 0.01 dB repeatability, the PM OVA-100 is built with Panda PM fibre.
The power monitoring option can be used to auto adjust the attenuation to achieve a constant power level. The 2U benchtop form factor can have up to 4 channels and can be integrated into a rack system using a rack mount kit. For higher channel counts, up to 8 channels, a larger 3U rack mount enclosure is available. The OVA-100 can be seamlessly integrated into different test setups using SCPI commands via USB or Ethernet. Additionally, it features a standard front panel touchscreen for convenient local control.
