  1. ZTE has presented the all-optical city solution at MWC Shanghai 2024. What technological innovations and commercial values have it brought to us?

PON technologies undergo generational upgrades every 10 years. At present, the 50G PON industry chain is gradually maturing. ZTE’s all-optical city solution promotes urban digitalization, and is applicable to campus, industry, and FTTM scenarios. As a leader in optical access technology and in 50G PON, ZTE provides a series of solutions such as precise 50G PON and 3-mode 50G PON Combo to meet the 10 gigabit access needs of all-optical cities.

In the campus scenario, ZTE deployed the first all-optical 10 gigabit campus network for a college by using “3-mode 50G PON Combo and FTTR-B” solution. This solution deeply integrates 50G PON technology and helps customer reduce cabling costs by 82% and power consumption by 36%.

In the industry scenario, to meet the deterministic network requirements, ZTE launched the industry’s most powerful pizza-box optical business gateway solution. This solution achieves full coverage and millisecond-level roaming of Wi-Fi networks, and provides 2,000 Mbps bandwidth. Both the network service quality and the user experience are enhanced. This solution has obvious advantages over traditional Ethernet switch solutions, including simpler network architecture, lower cost, precise bandwidth, and low latency features.

In the FTTM scenario, ZTE has helped build the world’s largest PON-based backhaul commercial network. It allows FTTH networks and 4G/5G networks to share the same infrastructures, reducing 4G/5G construction costs, and increasing the utilization efficiency of the existing FTTH networks.

At present, ZTE has been cooperating with over 50 operators worldwide on 50G PON trials and demos.


  1. What are the unique features of ZTE’s all-optical home solution? And what are its achievements?

ZTE aims to elevate the user experience to new heights with “seamless” home connections. Our concept for the future home focuses on creating an environment where connectivity is effortless and intuitive, allowing every member of the household to enjoy a superior and uninterrupted digital experience.

In whole-home networking, ZTE has launched a full range of Wi-Fi 7 CPE products including Wi-Fi Mesh and FTTR devices. These products cover all mainstream technical specifications. ZTE has also launched the industry’s first Wi-Fi 7 tri-band XGS-PON ONT, which provides the world’s fastest Wi-Fi speed of more than 14 Gbps. ZTE’s Wi-Fi 7 devices also stand out for eco-friendliness, with a unique Eco button that can save energy in one press. Overall, ZTE Wi-Fi 7 series CPE products take the users’ home network experience to the next level.

In digital homecare, ZTE offers an all-optical  networking based solution that leverages a ubiquitous screen entry to achieve full-scenario IoT control, including home devices control,  security monitoring, and smart healthcare applications. Especially, ZTE provides the smart healthcare services based on the all-optical solution, such as AI doctors, chronic disease prediction, remote healthcare, social entertainment, and home security. This solution effectively integrates elderly care resources, and helps the elderly enjoy a healthier, safer, and more convenient life. In short, it has moved the “offline” elderly care service system “online”.

In home network management, many operators are seeking for a platform that can bring values throughout the whole lifecycle of devices, which means the platform not only remotely resolves issues but also offers value-added services and enhanced network monitoring capabilities. ZTE’s smart cloud platform helps operators remotely and efficiently manage home terminal devices, monitor home network quality, ensure premium user experiences, and reduce O&M expenses. This system has been widely commercialized in overseas markets.

According to the Dell’Oro Group’s Broadband Access & Home Networking Quarterly Report Q4 2023, ZTE leads in PON CPE and DSL CPE shipments. Additionally, ZTE has maintained leadership in the IP STB market.


  1. As a leader in transmission technology in the Tbit era, what is the most significant breakthrough in ZTE’s Tbit OTN solution, and how does it impact the future of optical networks?

ZTE’s industry-leading Tbit OTN solution stands out in three key areas.

Firstly, it offers the highest system capacity. ZTE is the first to introduce a Tbit solution with baud rates exceeding 130G. It comprises 1.2T fixed optical module and 800G pluggable options. This allows seamless deployment in various networks. By expanding to the L-band, it achieves large-scale deployment in the backbone network with a single-fiber capacity of 32T. Based on a proprietary algorithm for multi-band power equalization, ZTE has completed the verification of 1.2T with S+C+L ultra wide spectrum in live OTN system, breaking the world record of a system capacity exceeding 120Tbps, paving the way for ultra-wide DCI scenario.

Secondly, it achieves the longest transmission distance. By utilizing high baud rate and unique algorithms, it achieves the longest 400G transmission distances in both live network and ZTE lab, with transmission distances over 5000km and 8000km respectively. It also sets a record for the longest transmission distance of pluggable 800G module at over 2000km and 1.1T with S+C+L over 250km in labs. This will reduce the need for electrical relays and lower networking costs.

Thirdly, ZTE pioneered the industry’s most compact 800G OTN pluggable module, achieving a 60% reduction in size, 68% reduction in power consumption, and doubled board port density compared to fixed 800G optical modules. Additionally, ZTE has completed the industry’s first DCI scenario verification of the 800G pluggable solution in live network, effectively saving room space and building a green and ecological optical network.

Finally, ZTE has collaborated with industry partners to undertake a new exploration on hollow-core fiber system, and has achieved a breakthrough in the real-time and unidirectional transmission of over 100T over a single fiber. Compared to typical single-mode fiber transmission systems, it reduces the service transmission latency by approximately 30%. These fibers have the potential to revolutionize optical communications by offering lower latency, higher bandwidth, and improved resistance to environmental factors.
