ECOC 2020 expo, the fibre optic industry’s premier event, has been rescheduled to take place between 7th – 9th December, with the Conference running from 6th – 10th December, due to the Corvid-19 pandemic. Apart from continuing to offer a unique and high-level platform to present and exhibit research results and products and the ever-popular Market Focus event, delegates, exhibitors and visitors will benefit from the efforts of the Brussels Expo management team who are taking unprecedented measures to create a safe environment. In addition, expo organiser Nexus Media Events will also be implementing social distancing measures and providing safety equipment where necessary.

In a world first, Brussels Expo will be equipping every part of the 120,000 m2 venue with UV-C germicidal air purifiers, including the exhibition facilities, the Palais 12 concert venue, meeting rooms, offices, access corridors, backstage facilities and toilets. Brussels Expo says UV-C purifiers are effective against pathogenic organisms, particularly viruses and other diseases of bacterial origin, eliminating them from the air and on surfaces. The purifiers, which use a range of technologies to make them safe for use in public areas, are most commonly used to disinfect hospital rooms, operating theatres, ambulances and public transport. The measure will be in addition to required regulations including the use of face masks, disinfecting gel and the limitation and organisation of visitor flow.

Denis Delforge, CEO of Brussels Expo said in a statement, “We have decided to equip ALL our spaces with a new technology capable of killing pathogenic germs. This decision underlines a real commitment to initiate the revival of the events sector, which has been in the doldrums since 19th March, while ensuring optimal health conditions for our clients, exhibitors, visitors, suppliers, partners and employees.”

ECOC’s commercial director Emma Harvey commented, “By postponing ECOC 2020, we will significantly increase the possibility of a successful edition (in person !) of our exhibition and IMEC, our partner in organising the conference. ECOC 2020, as a premier event worldwide in our field, will continue to provide you with a unique and high-level platform to present and exhibit your research results and products.”
