Integrates both OTDR and OSA functionality for monitoring optical infrastructure.

PacketLight Networks, a developer of DWDM and optical fibre networking solutions, has introduced the PL-1000D fibre optic diagnostic solution, which is intended to consistently monitor signal quality and any network faults in a single device.

Delivering non-intrusive network visibility, the PL-1000D offers carriers, dark fibre providers and enterprises a method of performing real-time network diagnostics and achieving improved service level agreements. The solution offers an optical time domain reflectometer and an optical spectrum analyser integrated into a 1U box for minimal rack space.

PacketLight comments that, “the PL-1000D is also the most comprehensive solution for maintaining secure networks. It detects changes in the fibre characteristics, such as tapping, and works in combination with embedded Layer-1 encryption to protect data across the fibre.”

Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight Networks, said, “The PL-1000D was developed as a response to high demand from our customers wanting a cost-effective solution for better network visibility and accurate monitoring of fibre signal and faults.”

“We responded by delivering one device with OTDR and OSA functionality for constant non-intrusive network monitoring to reduce maintenance costs and detect issues prior to service degradation. This is another strong example of our commitment to delivering end-to-end solutions that reduce our customers’ CAPEX and OPEX.”

Eight lines consecutively
The PL-1000D monitors up to eight fibre strands consecutively and operates standalone over dark fibre, lighted fibre, or a third party network without impacting network traffic.

The device also monitors the entire DWDM C-band spectrum and provides the optical spectrum, OSNR, and OTDR measurements of the fibre. This reduces the costs and time associated with deploying technicians to the field with dedicated test equipment.

About PacketLight Networks:
PacketLight Networks offers a suite of leading 1U metro and long haul CWDM/DWDM and OTN solutions, as well as Layer-1 optical encryption for transport of data, storage, voice and video applications over dark fibre and WDM networks.

The Tel Aviv, Israel-based company provides the entire optical layer transport solution within a highly integrated compact platform, designed for maximum flexibility, easy maintenance and operation, with real pay-as-you-grow architecture, while maintaining a high level of reliability and low cost.
