Education network operator GÉANT has selected a network disaggregation and management system from Coriant to help scale its European backbone network.
Deployed to support high-speed data centre interconnect (DCI) and alien wavelength applications, the Coriant DCI solution will enable GÉANT to easily and cost-efficiently boost network capacity across core PoP sites, including London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Paris, Geneva and Marseilles.
GÉANT has chosen the Coriant Groove G30 Network Disaggregation Platform and Coriant Transcend Chorus transport network management solution to support the National Research and Education Network (NREN) partners it serves.
Bram Peeters, chief network operations officer at GÉANT, said: “Bandwidth demands continue to grow dramatically across many scientific disciplines, and with Coriant’s cost-optimised Groove G30 solution we expect to be able to bring the right levels of capacity and resiliency to keep in step with this evolution.”
GÉANT says it selected the Groove G30 platform for its compact 1RU form factor, low power consumption and its ability to support “pay-as-you-grow” scalability with its modular SLED-based system design. Initial deployment will support resilient high-capacity router interconnects between core data centre facilities, to leverage programmable 100G, 150G and 200G coherent line-side transmissions enabled by Coriant CloudWave Optics technology.
The deployment includes the Coriant Transcend Chorus transport network management system, a platform that simplifies end-to-end service provisioning and which reduces operations costs through software-defined intelligence, automation and control.

By leveraging packet disaggregation and open software control, said Coriant, the ultra-dense power-efficient Vibe X90 white box enables service providers and web-scale operators to dramatically reduce operational costs when compared to traditional transport IP routing solutions.
