Components and solutions company Molex has partnered with industrial fibre optic communications systems maker Phoenix Digital Corporation (PDC), to market and provide end-to-end, high-availability communication network solutions for industrial automation markets.
PDC’s products incorporate Ethernet-based smart switch technology in a secure and fault-tolerant communication platform. The integrated platform increases plant level connectivity of process and power devices to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), without the complexity of traditional IT-based solutions.

The PDC fibre optic Ethernet system incorporates distributed stacked core technology that enables redundant high-availability Ethernet connectivity, without requiring IP addressing or software configuration. Compatible with all protocols of Ethernet, the technology delivers a secure, simple to install and easy to maintain network with an MTTR of less than 30 seconds. The result is increased network uptime and expansion without disruption—essential elements for a high-availability industrial network.
Molex and PDC now offer a complete set of communication tools, providing higher throughput, greater flexibility, and increased reliability than previous conventional Modbus communication equipment. PDC Modbus optical communication modules provide multi-drop redundant fibre optic communications for high-reliability Modbus, Modbus/TCP, and Modbus & Ethernet networks, with on-the-fly Modbus multi-master multiplexing.
