OFS, a developer of innovative fibre optic products is highlighting its new Pyrocoat K optical fibre at the Photonics West Exposition being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California from 27 January – 1 February 2018. The Pyrocoat K Optical Fibre offers an improved coating that enables wider operating temperatures than any commercially available polymer-coated fibres, the company claims.
The products specification states, “With its reliable performance for fibre optics in extreme conditions, Pyrocoat K Optical fibre provides thermal stability over various continuous temperatures and lifetimes: 275°C for 80 years, 300°C for 13 years, 325°C for 2.2 years, and 350°C for 18 days. These fibres can also withstand short excursions at even higher temperatures, and long-duration stability at low temperature extremes, at and below -65°C.”
Michael Hines, OFS Market Manager for Industrial Sensing commented, “We’re excited to add Pyrocoat K fibre as a problem-solving technology to the growing family of LineaSens distributed sensing products.
“OFS has quantified the reliability of optical fibres over a broad range of high operating temperatures, closing significant, industry-wide performance gaps and opening new opportunities for optical fibre use in harsh environments.”
Dr. Jane Cercena, Senior VP, OFS Specialty Optical Fibre added, “This fibre development illustrates the company’s long-term commitment to the fundamental sciences that enable fibre optics to extend into new and exciting market areas.”
