TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) is extending the use of Infinera’s DTN-X to its European network, having already adopting the platform in the US. Infinera has also outlined the next evolution in its networking strategy, dubbed the Intelligent Transport Network.

TSIC is adopting the DTN-X 100G services in Europe to accommodate its own growing IP traffic. “We will also be able to sell in the market 100-gig services and activate the capacity much more rapidly,” said Ivo Pascucci, head of sales, Americas at TeliaSonera International Carrier, making use of the DTN-X’s ‘instant bandwidth’ feature based on already-lit 100G superchannels.

“TSIC values both vendors [Infinera and Coriant] and both have their place in the European network,” said Cooperson. “TSIC plans to use the vendors in different regions and I am sure it will try and play each off against the other to get the best price.”

Meanwhile, Infinera has detailed its Intelligent Transport Network strategy that extends its optical-electrical-optical conversion using its 500Gbps photonic integrated circuits (PICs) coupled with OTN switching to include multi-layer switching – ROADMs and MPLS switching – and PICs with terabit capacity.

“Infinera’s longer-term strategy includes evolving from its ‘digital optical network’ messaging to a network that includes multiple layers and types of switching and more automation,” said Cooperson.

Infinera is not yet announcing new functionality for its platform.
